Burst Test Fixture
During my internship at Autoliv Electronics Canada, I identified the need for a new burst test fixture. The existing fixture required a lot of manual safety checks and was prone to frequent breakdowns. Keeping these issues in mind, I designed a new purely mechanical, automated system to allow for the execution of burst tests on laser welded modules.
The fixture was designed with adherence to Autoliv's safety standards and inline with its dimensional tolerancing requirements. I worked closely with a technical sales representative from SMC Pneumatics to develop an automated pneumatic cycle without the use of solenoids. In this design the user has to only interact with the toggle clamp, module nest and door, as can be seen in the SolidWorks model.
Design for manufacturing
With the assistance of a local machine shop - DMachine, I iterated upon my design to improve its manufacturability as well as to enhance its maintainability. The machined fixture can be seen on the right, finished with a coat of Autoliv Blue!
